As you will notice Dominican Republic has a fantastic scenery and so it is no surprise that filmmakers have been coming here for a long time to film their movies. Parts of Francis Ford Coppola’s Oscar-winning “Godfather II” were filmed here in historic Colonial City in 1974 and so were scenes from “Apocalypse Now” on the shores of the river Chavón in La Romana in 1979. Due to Santo Domingo’s similarities with Havana many films like “Havana (1990)” starring Robert Redford was filmed here. More recently Miami Vice and The Good Shepherd,” starring Angelina Jolie and Matt Damon were filmed here.
